Please Note: All participants must reserve their room through the registration/payment process on this website. Our use of the Vilar Performing Arts Center is dependent upon Institute families staying at the Charter, Creekside, or Borders Lodge.
Please do not book through a wholesaler, travel agent or other third party booking company such as Expedia. If you choose to book your lodging elsewhere, a $550 Facility Fee will be charged and used to offset the cost of renting space in Beaver Creek.
Most classes will be held at The Charter and at the Vilar so you will always be within easy walking distance of all classrooms, but there is also a shuttle service that runs non-stop around the resort.
No student registrations accepted after May 1st without permission from the director. Please email execdirector@coloradosuzuki.org for space availability. ($150.00 Late Registration Fee applies to registrations received after May 1st)

CCMI PREP Information
Are you interested in exploring a chamber music opportunity with other musicians your age? If you are 10 and up, we would love to give you an opportunity for extra coaching in a small ensemble! Through our special chamber music preparatory program, open to all instruments, you will be able to participate in an additional small ensemble alongside your core curriculum classes. You will begin your journey as a chamber musician with your peers, and even get some important pointers from Lux members, our professional string quartet in residence!
Registration deadline for this program is March 25th for piano and April 15th for strings and guitar. These are important deadlines as it allows us time to put groups together and send out music before institute.
There is NO audition for a student to participate in the CCMI PREP curriculum level but students must be age 10 and up and in:
- Cello Book 4 & up
- Guitar Book 6 & up
- Piano Book 4 & up (reading ability Book 3)
- Viola Book 4 & up
- Violin Book 5 & up
In order to place each child in the appropriate group CCMI PREP students must submit the CCMI PREP Placement Form including a video recording of a polished Suzuki solo piece via YouTube by March 25th for pianists and April 15th for strings. Piano accompaniment is not required. This does not need to be a fancy video! Just take some footage of your student in their lesson or when running a piece of music at home. Our goal with this video is to place the students appropriately in ensembles.
Enrolling in this curriculum carries a big responsibility and commitment along with high expectations for the success of this group. Only if you prepare your ensemble music to complete fluency will this curriculum level be appropriate for you. You will be emailed in mid-May a .pdf file of your assigned part. We own the original music. If you prefer to purchase the music, it is all available through:

Musicianship & Technique Classes
As part of the core curriculum, Book 1 & 2 students take a Music Theory class and Book 3 & Up students take a Technique class.
To ensure students receive the most effective experience, the following minimum levels have been defined. These levels refer to theory skills and are not necessarily related to reading levels. Please consult with your teacher to determine your child’s appropriate level (A or B) and indicate it on the registration form. Your teacher will also be asked to submit a confirmation email.
***If you are unsure whether a student is ready for a certain level, register your student at the lower level.
Level A (Book 1 & 2)
Students at this level are new to music notation symbols or have had little introduction to music symbols. This musicianship class level focuses on learning note names, note lengths, rhythmic relationships, pitch-matching, drawing musical symbols and other introductory music theory activities.
Level B (Book 1 & 2)
Ear-training/aural skills include the ability to match pitch vocally and to hear and accurately echo short melodic patterns vocally.
Reading skills include an ability to visually recognize note and rest values, identify notes on a staff and recognize skips and steps on the staff.
Students at this level are also developing the ability to demonstrate a steady beat in a variety of tempi, understand the difference between beat and rhythm, and be able to transition from half to quarter to eighth notes.
Book 3 & Up Technique Class
All Book 3 & Up students will automatically be enrolled in the proper technique class based upon their instrument and book level.
